Our English teacher is with us all day

English is by our children's side throughout the day. Alongside activities that run all day long, every class has two English lessons every day.

Lesson 1

English topics, step by step

Greetings, colours, numbers, feelings, animals… The topics follow a set sequence. Each one is introduced first through real objects, movement and play.

Lesson 2

Today's topic, in English

Whatever the children learned in the Turkish programme that day, they meet again in English in the second lesson. On the day the Turkish programme explores the layers of the soil, the English lesson explores them too.

English all day long

"Good morning!" at the door, "Wash your hands!" at the sink, "Thank you!" at lunch, "Let's play!" at playtime. The same short phrases come back in the routines of every day.

Children learn what these phrases mean by living them every day, rather than by memorising them.

Meet Benny

Benny is a rabbit puppet who visits the classroom only for English lessons. Benny speaks only English, so everyone talks to him in English. This simple rule answers the question "why are we speaking English?" before a child even asks it.

How we teach

Understanding first

At preschool age, language grows first through listening and understanding. We answer instructions with movement: we jump at "Jump!" and sit at "Sit down!".

We encourage

We encourage our children to speak, gently and at their own pace. Each child starts speaking when they feel ready, and we celebrate their first words together.

Benny

Our lessons have a puppet too: Benny, a rabbit who understands only English. The children talk to him in English; sometimes Benny makes a mistake on purpose, and it is up to the children to put it right.

At this age, our focus in English is listening, understanding and loving the language. We send the week's words to parents in a newsletter, so the same words can be used at home too.

A message is all it takes to meet us.

Let's talk about our English programme when you visit the school.
